Adulthood and Old Age
Understanding Psychology Book is what is used to guide this pacing.
There should be a LOT of discussion taking place in the classroom over the topics discussed in this chapter.
Day 1: Students will use banner paper, which you can grab from the teacher lounge, to create a timeline of a persons age and the changes taking place using the information in Lesson 1, Adulthood on page 124-130 and Lesson 2, Old Age on page 131-135.
Day 2: Students will begin by answering the questions at the end of lesson 1 on page 130 and Lesson 2 on page 135 and then they will jump into the Readings in Psychology, Lesson 3, and the case study and as a group decide the 3 most important things to take away from each reading section.
Warm Up Options: Day 1 warm up have kids look up the definition to euthanasia and ask if they think it should be allowed for people to choose it. Day 2 warm up asking the students if they find value in children and old age like they do adulthood. Day 3 warm up is asking the students what a death panel is and if they think any countries have versions of it and if they think it is ethical (this will require students to understand the concept of how some countries weigh longevity of life with that of value and quality of life before approving them for needed surgeries).
Day 1 Lab-end of chapter: For this day's lab, after the warm up you will begin with giving the lab Age and Intelligence. Your students will then take the same test and give it to 10 people in their family, friend, and teacher/AP groups. (INCOURAGE THEM TO ASK STAFF) They will record the persons age and how long it took that person to do the test. They will create a bar graph showing the differences in time taken to do the exam. They will turn this in at the end of the week.
